Do you know that there are also TVET in Germany? It’s called the Ausbildung or Dual Vocational Training (DVT). The TVET in Germany is a 3-year apprenticeship programme where students will get on-the-job training as well as attending classes at a vocational school.

German companies are assured that graduates from this programme are both competent and experienced. In addition, this TVET in Germany is recognised not only in the EU, but also in Switzerland and Austria. That means you can work in the Switzerland and earn in Swiss Franc.

Best thing about this programme? You will get a monthly allowance starting from €950 in the first year and it can get up to €1150 in the third year. That’s enough to cover your living expenses and you will not need to worry about working part-time.

A Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme is designed to equip students with practical skills and knowledge required for specific trades and professions. Unlike traditional academic routes, TVET programmes emphasise hands-on learning, combining theoretical education with real-world, on-the-job experience.

TVET programmes equip individuals with the specialised skills and competencies that employers seek, enabling graduates to perform tasks related to their trade with high levels of proficiency.

The key features of a TVET programme include:

  • Skill-based learning: Students acquire practical skills that can be immediately applied in the workplace.
  • Industry-relevant curriculum: The courses are closely aligned with current industry standards and trends, ensuring graduates are job-ready.
  • Dual learning system: Many TVET programmes, particularly in countries like Germany, integrate classroom instruction with apprenticeships or internships, providing real-world experience alongside academic studies.
  • Career-focused education: TVET programmes are tailored to prepare students for specific careers, such as culinary arts, hotel management, or event planning.

If you want to be a chef, or be in restaurants, events or hotel management, you should consider the TVET in Germany as you will gain an international experience and education while getting an allowance (instead of paying expensive tuition-fees!).

Graduates of this programme are in high demand and you should be able to find a job in Germany or in other European countries.

There are requirements which you will need to fulfil though. You will need to be fluent enough in German and have completed your secondary school education. That means you can apply to this programme after completing your SPM, IGCSE, Diploma, Foundation or UEC.
